BOARD DEVELOPMENT
Ensure effective board processes, structures and roles, including retreat planning, committee development, and board evaluation; responsible for the general affairs of the board; includes role of nominating committee, such as keeping list of potential board members, orientation and training; board composition priorities; recommend officers.

EXECUTIVE
Oversee operations of the board; acts on behalf of the board during on-demand activities that occur between board meetings (these acts are later presented for full board review); comprised of Board Chair, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer and committee chairs; performs evaluation of Chief Executive Officer.

FINANCE
Oversee development of the budget; ensures accurate tracking, monitoring, and accountability for funds; ensures adequate financial controls; Chaired by Board Treasurer and Co-Chaired by Chief Financial Officer; reviews major grants and associated terms.

FUNDRAISING
Oversee EARLY’s overall fundraising, in particular the fundraising done by the board; oversees development and implementation of the Fundraising Plan, e.g. special events, direct mail; identifies and solicits funds from external sources of support; facilitate appropriate donor recognition; work with fundraising staff in their efforts to raise funds in a cost effective manner.

MARKETING
Oversee development and implementation of the Marketing Plan, including identifying potential markets, their needs, how to meet those needs with programming, and how to promote the programs.

PERSONNEL
Guides development, review and authorization of personnel policies and procedures; drafts and revises personnel policies for board approval; reviews job descriptions, establishes salary structure, annual review of staff salaries and benefits package; grievance board for employee complaints (only responds to formal written grievances against the Chief Executive Officer); leads evaluation of the Chief Executive Officer; may assists Chief Executive Officer with leadership and management matters.

PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT
Comprised of board members who are most familiar with the approaches and operations of EARLY; guides development of programming; includes evaluation of programming including, e.g., outcomes, goals, data, analysis and resulting adjustments; liaison between the board and the staff on program activities.
